The blanket, crowned
The Original Sarape Tallit
A sarape crowned as a tallit: an atarah at the neck, a plate on every corner, tzitzit tied there. It comes with techelet. Worn for prayer the way a tallit gadol is worn. The fringe that came with the blanket stays on the hem.
Judaica for the diaspora, made to be worn. The line runs Ashkenazi and Sephardic, through Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, and at last Mexico. The Latino and the Jewish are held in the same breath. The Sarape Tallit is what that breath made. — Yakov
These three have sold. The sarapes still on hand are below. Choose one, and it is crowned the same way.

Choose a cloth
On hand.
None of these is a tallit yet. The fringe is the blanket’s own. Pick one and it gets an atarah, a plate on every corner, and tzitzit tied there.
Not crowned yet. A black diamond band over rust and charcoal.

Atarah
Sewn to the neck edge. The blessing runs the length of it. Tablets in a wreath mark both points, so the crown is obvious when you lift the cloth.

Corner plate
One on each corner. The strings come through the middle of the tablets, not off the loose hem. On Tierra, a thread of techelet is tied in with the white.

Tzitzit
Knots, then windings, then the free ends. Beside them, the blanket’s own fringe hangs unknotted. Same corner. Two different things.
What was added, and what was left alone.
A sarape is already a mantle. It is not yet a tallit. The invention is the difference: four corners made ready, a crown at the neck, and strings that were tied on purpose.
01
The sarape
The body is a sarape: a woven rectangle, striped, with geometric bands and a fringe already on the hem. Sarape is the spelling in Mexico. Serape is the English one. Same cloth.
02
The atarah
A white neckpiece is sewn on, pointed at the ends, so the shoulder edge is obvious. It is embroidered in black with the wrapping blessing and the tablets.
03
The corner plates
Each of the four corners gets a white plate, the same hand as the atarah. The tzitzit come through there — the kanfot, the corners the commandment names.
04
The tzitzit
The default is Sephardi windings, with techelet already in the strings. Ptil Techelet is a separate brand, asked for on its own. Any other tying is accommodated, including hand-spun wool. The hem fringe stays what it was. It is not the mitzvah.
The fringe on the hem came with the blanket. The tzitzit had to be tied.
Before one of these is worn, the cloth gets checked for shatnez. Wool and linen together cannot be a tallit. A sarape in acrylic or cotton is clear. A wool sarape has to be wool alone.
Said while wrapping
Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to wrap ourselves in tzitzit.
The atarah faces the neck. That is how you know which edge is up when you pick the tallit up off the chair.
Made to order.
Rojo, Tierra, and Turquesa have sold. A note names which sarape on hand to crown. Color, the corner plates, the neckband, and the tying can all be worked with you. Hand-spun wool of any thickness is welcome. If a material has to be ordered in, the price changes.
Every tallit comes with techelet. Ptil Techelet is a separate brand. The default tying is Sephardi, 10 · 5 · 6 · 5. Beside it, 7 · 8 · 11 · 13. Allow 10 business days to craft and ship. With Ptil Techelet, allow 15.
